Despite Wedbush Morgan analyst Michael Pachter saying that the Xbox One beat out the PS4 in console sales for September, the latest NPD report for September has revealed that Sony’s console was the number one selling system in the United States for that month. Geoff Keighley also reported that compared to sales in August, the PS4 sold triple the number of consoles in September.

Destiny was the biggest release for the console in September, naturally, but several multiplatform games like FIFA 15 also saw great sales on the PS4. Nintendo wasn’t left behind in September. Super Smash Bros. on the 3DS managed to sell 705,000 units within its first two days. About 135,000 of those sales came from the Nintendo eShop. The 3DS sold 140,000 units, marking a 55 percent increase over August and sales of the Wii U increased by 50 percent.

Microsoft is yet to comment on the NPD’s report.

Overall software sales were down by 36 percent year-on-year to $481.2 million. This is due to the fact that Grand Theft Auto 5 launched in the same month last year though. Hardware sales saw a significant uptick though with $432.7 million in sales, indicating a 136 percent year-on-year increase. Total industry spending for the month was $1.1 billion.
