Assassin’s Creed Unity

Yesterday we reported that Ubisoft had delayed the fourth patch for Assassin’s Creed Unity in view of ‘quality considerations,’ which is a bit ironic considering the state that the game itself launched in. However, just a day later, it appears that it has gotten the green light from Ubisoft, as the patch is now out, finally addressing the long criticized framerate failure of the game.

At a humongous 6.7 GB, the patch is actually bigger than a fair number of full games released this year, such as Mario Kart 8, which weighed in at 5GB. Speaking about the size, Ubisoft said, “Part of the team’s effort to enhance frame rate for players involves replacing and updating portions of the Paris city map where we are seeing issues.”

“This explains the large size of this title update (6.7 GB). However, since a large portion of the patch replaces existing files the net increase to the game’s overall size will be less than 6.7 GB.”

The full patch notes for what the update does are as below:

Patch 4 delivers a variety fixes including:

  • Performance & Stability: Frame rate drops, game crashes, lost progression
  • Gameplay: Navigation, lock picking chests
  • Online: Connectivity, matchmaking, companion app

Alright, that sounds fair to me. Currently, the patch is available to all Xbox One and PS4 users, with a PC version coming later this week.
