GamingBolt has covered DirectX 12, the upcoming API from Microsoft, quite extensively. We have spoken to a number of developers and conducted analysis, and it seems that DirectX 12 will be a game changer, especially on PCs. But what about performance improvements in the virtual reality market? Will the new API help boost performance for VR gaming?

GamingBolt recently got in touch with Patrick O’ Luanaigh, CEO of nDreams and asked him about his thoughts how DirectX 12 could possibly help with VR gaming. “Yes. DX12 seems to be incredibly fast and capable of delivering some massive performance benefits,” he said to GamingBolt. “We’ve been talking to both AMD and nVidia, and I think you’ll see the combination of DX12 and new PC graphics card technology make high-resolution, high quality, high frame-rate PC VR achievable.”

“The work that AMD are doing with Liquid VR is incredibly impressive, and their SDK and hardware will allow super lower-latency VR. The Nvidia Titan X is also amazing, and I suspect will take full advantage of the power of DX12.”

It will be interesting to see how many VR games will adopt this API in the next year or so and whether Microsoft will release some benchmarking results for the same. Regardless the potential of VR with DirectX 12 sounds exciting.

nDreams are currently working on Gunner, which the developer describes as an intense space combat experience.
