Universally positive.

Witcher 3 Wild Hunt

In what is a rarity for a non Nintendo major AAA release, CD Projekt RED’s The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt had its review embargo lifted today, a week ahead of the game’s official launch. And it appears that every single person who got time to play the game absolutely loved it- reviews for the game are universally positive, including a rare 10/10 score for it from Gamespot (only the eighth perfect score in the site’s 20 year history).

The game is widely being praised for its open world, which has been described as a dense, living marvel, a persistent world that exists independent of you or your quest, and for the quality of side quests and exploration that the game features. Common criticisms so far include the game’s combat, which while a step up from The Witcher 2, is still being considered a shortcoming, and the quality of the main story, which is being considered underwhelming.

Nonetheless, at a Metascore of 92, the game is currently the highest rated RPG of the year, and also the highest rated game of the year; it is tied with Bloodborne and Super Smash Bros. for Wii U as the second highest rated game of the generation, behind only Super Mario 3D World.

A list of some of the most notable reviews for the game so far follows:

Gamespot – 10
IGN – 9.3
Kotaku – Yes
GameTrailers – 9.8
Metro – 9
IGN Italy – 9.1
GamesVillage – 8.7
Gram.pl – 8.5
Destructoid – 8
PlayStation Trophies – 92 / 100
Eurogamer – no score (review in progress)
