Halo 5: Guardians Will Let You Purchase REQ Packs With Real Money

Hunt the truth about microtransactions.

Halo 5 Guardians

Halo 5: Guardians, much like so many other big name AAA releases these days, will also include the option for microtransactions- players will have the choice to purchase REQ packs with real money, and skip earning them.  However, only cosmetic items acquired through the REQ packs will be allowed to be used in the Arena experience.

“The Requisition System (REQ System) in Halo 5: Guardians rewards players across both our multiplayer experiences,” 343 Industries’ studio head of internal development Josh Holmes explained. “Players will earn REQ Points after each match in Arena or Warzone multiplayer, which can then be redeemed for REQ Packs. Each pack contains a variety of requisitions in the form of unlockable weapons and armors, skins, assassination animations, and more.

“In addition, players will receive REQ Packs as rewards when they level up their Spartan Rank and complete Commendations across multiplayer.”

The option to purchase these packs, therefore, is only going to be there as a matter of convenience for players who can’t devote as much time to the game, but still want to remain competitive. Holmes also explained that the microtransactions would still go towards making the Halo experience better, as a portion of the proceeds will be tossed in the prize pools for the Halo Championship Series.

Halo 5: Guardians launches October 27, exclusively on Xbox One. Stay tuned for more coverage.
