Gears of War Ultimate Edition

On Monday morning, Microsoft and The Coalition announced a special treat for Gears of War fans. The companies released a statement saying that anyone who purchases Gears of War: Ultimate Edition starting now and for a limited time, will get access to the entire Xbox 360 collection of the Gears of War games and they will be playable on the Xbox One.

This appears to be the ultimate way to show off the recently announced backwards compatibility option on the Xbox One. On the official Xbox One website the company announced that from August 25 to December 31, those who purchase and play The Ultimate Edition on Xbox Live will unlock Gears of War, Gears of War 2, Gears of War 3 and Gears of War: Judgment on backwards compatibility when it officially launches in the fall.

Those who may have one or all of these games on the 360 already need not fear. All the original titles will be fully function through backwards compatibility. This means that gamers will be able to access Xbox One features like Game DVR, Snap, and screenshots without missing a beat. Game Saves and accomplishments will also transfer over from the Xbox 360 to the Xbox One. One more piece of good news was announced today as well. For those players who are in the pilot program for the backwards compatibility program, the original Gears of War is available right now. Gears of War Ultimate Edition is only going to be releasing for the Xbox One on August 25. In the meantime you can check out some relatively new artwork released for the game as well as Gears of War 4.
