Techland Explains Why Dying Light 2 May Not Launch On PS4 And Xbox One

Techland is looking at a sequel, but it might be too ambitious for the Xbox One or PS4.

Dying Light has been more popular than developer Techland likely could have hoped when it launched a few months ago on the PS4 and Xbox One. This March, the company was already announcing there were more than 3.2 million people playing the game and they had killed more than 378 million zombies. Those numbers rightfully scream for a sequel, but it appears as though Techland might have some ideas that are so ambitious, they aren’t really going to work on the current generation of consoles.

Tymon Smektala recently sat down with Videogamer.com and sounded a bit pessimistic about the sequel coming anytime soon. He said the studio needs to determine whether or not the ideas the team has come up with “are even doable with the tech that the current consoles provide”. The developer was talking about an unannounced project at Gamescom and he added that it was simply too early to give any specifics at all about what a sequel might bring or if one is even coming at this point.

“Of course, we’re not talking about [Dying Light 2] just yet,” he said, “but the reason for that is that it is too early. We have lots of very ambitious ideas so first we need to check if these ideas are even doable with the tech that the current consoles provide.” He added that the team needs to make sure the ideas are as good as they think they are, which means they still need to put a prototype together. He did add that he thinks the team has a clear idea of what they can do with the IP and he expects people to hear good things in the future.
