IO Interactive has announced that Hitman, which was slated to release in December 2015, has been delayed to March 2016. It was originally meant to be made available online first and then release at retail early next year. The overall structure of the game has come under criticism due to the base game having a set number of missions and live events but with more content to be added over the months.

The developer thus decided to delay the game, not only because of the scale and density of its worlds but to add more content. “We want to make absolutely sure you all get the best possible experience when you join, so we’ve made the difficult decision to move the initial release date to March 2016.

“These few extra months will mean we can add more to the launch content of the game, more than we had originally planned, and then follow with a tighter frequency of updates, which ultimately will create a better game for everyone. And in the end, that’s what we’re all looking for.”

There will be a lot to look forward to in the game including challenges and targets in Contracts mode. IO Interactive will share more information next week on Hitman’s full release schedule and scope so stay tuned for the same.
