Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain is nearly two months old, racking up a global revenue on launch day that puts the opening of Avengers: Age of Ultron to shame. Despite the drama between Konami and Hideo Kojima continuing, we haven’t forgotten about the moments, incidents and plot-lines of Kojima’s opus. We’ve attempted to outline some of the more shocking and disturbing moments in the game, and while opinions may vary, there’s no denying the significance of many of these events.

Quiet Extreme Violence

Quiet, the super solider of Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain, has some of the more shocking moments in the game. Much of it follows from her encounters with Big Boss/Venom Snake, especially after she joins the Diamond Dogs (which is a whole other story in itself). At one point, when a parasite outbreak affects Mother Base a second time, Quiet leaves, not wanting to be a risk despite remaining silent (thus not releasing the parasites with her body). This causes her capture at the hands of the Soviets who drown her. What follows afterwards is a display of violence that is as beautiful as it is brutal.

Venom Snake does track her down eventually, even bearing witness to her display of violence. Besides the chilling reality of prisoner treatment during wars, especially to female soldiers, the scene is noteworthy because it’s followed by Quiet’s eventual disappearance upon saving Snake. With her parasites active, Quiet’s last action was to save Snake’s life. Her fate is never revealed, at least not within the game.
