Square Enix just announced it’s earnings for the last quarter and the company was able to point to very good news, especially when compared to the same period of time a year ago. According to the company, the firm saw revenue and profit jumps by about 18 percent compared to the same quarter in 2014. Revenue wasn’t the only thing that saw a pretty big jump considering that the company’s net income was ¥7.3 billion, compared to ¥5.7 billion a year ago.

While some people might not realize it, video games isn’t the only way Square Enix makes money. The firm actually has its fingers in a number of pies, though that particular division was a big part of the total income. The video game division hauled in ¥60.2 billion, compared to ¥43.8 billion during the same period last year. The most interesting little factoid about where the company saw the biggest sales was in the mobile sector. Smartphone titles such as Dragon Quest Monsters Super Light, Schoolgirl Strikers, Final Fantasy Record Keeper, and Kai-ri-Sei Million Arthur were all among the company’s best sellers.

To that end, Square Enix said it sees the gaming market changing big time in the next few weeks, months and years. “In light of such environmental changes, the Group [Square Enix] is focusing all efforts on establishment of a solid revenue foundation through introduction of flexible content development conforming to the ever-changing environment as well as diversification of profit opportunities.” It will be interesting to see just how much Square Enix changes it approach in the near future.
