Remedy Working On An Unannounced Title: Alan Wake 2 Incoming?

The new project is being worked on for at least nine months.

Alan Wake 2

Hot on the heels of Quantum Break’s launch on PC and Xbox One, unconfirmed rumours appear to indicate that Remedy has been working on an as-yet-unannounced title over the last several months. Very little is concrete at the moment, but the LinkedIn profiles for Mikko Rautalahti and Kyle Rowley—both Remedy employees—were recently updated to include work on an unannounced project. Rowley is Remedy’s Lead Designer, and per his profile, he has been working on the project since last August.

Quantum Break’s controversial release highlighted the glaring issues with Microsoft’s UWP (Universal Windows Program) project. Epic’s Tim Sweeney went as far as saying “Microsoft’s UWP can, should, and must die.” The PC version of Quantum Break suffered from a number of issues including outputting at a non-native resolution (the 1080p option is a 720p frame with 4x MSAA), a bizarre framerate cap only lets the game run at 5/6 of the monitor’s refresh rate, general performance issues, and an inability to run in exclusive fullscreen mode.

Considering Remedy’s close ties to Microsoft, chances are that the new, unannounced title will also be a UWP release. However, considering where Remedy’s franchises are at right now, we’re still very stoked for an official announcement. With Quantum Break already out, a new IP is unlikely, which possibly leads to the conclusion that we’re looking a proper sequel to Alan Wake. Does that sound exciting to you? Let us know!
