"You can expect we will support Nintendo."

Nothing is known about Nintendo’s NX, but we do know that third parties appear to be rather enthusiastic about the system- which makes for a welcome change from the nightmarishly barren landscape of third party support that was the Wii U. Among the third parties who seem to be on board the most with the NX, however, are Ubisoft.

Ubisoft have already officially announced one NX game. They have already said that they expect the NX to recapture Wii players that the Wii U lost. And now, in an interview with Game Informer, Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot has formally confirmed that they will be supporting the Nintendo NX.

“You can expect we’ll support Nintendo. Nintendo is one of the best partners in the world,” he said.

His stance makes sense- after all, Ubisoft were one of the most enthusiastic supporters of the Wii U as well, putting out several great games for the platform at first, and staying on far after most other third parties had left. Does Guillemot not fear a repeat of the Wii U experience with the NX?

“We could see it wasn’t selling as fast as expected, so we reorganized around other platforms,” he said. “With the Wii U, we were able to relaunch Rayman 2D. It was a good thing for the company and the brand and its fans. If you remember, it was supposed to be Wii U exclusive, but we made it multi-platform when we saw it wasn’t selling fast enough. The Wii U has done quite well. It’s still a Nintendo machine with lots of great franchises, and we’ve sold lots of copies of Just Dance on it.”

It sounds like Ubisoft are mostly happy with how the Wii U turned out for them in the end, albeit after some downgraded expectations- let’s hope their faith in the NX is rewarded better. The Nintendo NX is slated to launch in March 2017, and a reveal of the platform is expected in Fall this year.
