Deus Ex: Human Revolution was praised for its story-telling and freedom of choice (outside of boss fights, that is) but even with four different endings, there is one major obstacle that comes up – how is that factored into the sequel Deus Ex: Mankind Divided? Especially when the latter doesn’t track those choices made?
Producer Olivier Proulx discussed this with Finder and noted the lack of such tracking technology for the previous game. For the previous game, Human Revolution, we didn’t have any technology to track your actions. When we started Mankind Divided, we felt we needed to take a bit of truth from all the four endings so players could feel that, ‘okay, this kind of makes sense for me.’ Plus we kept things a bit more mysterious to start Mankind Divided, saying that such a big event would probably suffer from a lot of misinformation from civilians and the news.”
With Deus Ex: Mankind Divided though, the development team will actually keep track of your choices for the next game…even though Proulx doesn’t know if there will be a next game.
“As for this new game, we don’t know whether there will be another Deus Ex game or not. However, we are tracking your choices and the consequences in Mankind Divided. When you’re done, we seal your save game file with everything that you’ve done and that’s gonna give us the option in the future. If we’re lucky enough to work on a sequel, we can use that as a stepping stone for you to come in and continue where you left off. So we have changed our approach to tracking your progress.”
Deus Ex: Mankind Divided is out on August 23rd for Xbox One, PS4 and PC. Check out the launch trailer here.
