The price of technical mastery.

Final Fantasy 15 is going to be a technical wonder- but to actually get that technical wonder running on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, both of which appear to be too weak for its incredible technical vision, Square Enix had to apparently make some compromises.

In the latest livestreamed Active Time Report event (via DualShockers), Hajime Tabata, the director of the game, confirmed that Final Fantasy 15 will be running at a variable resolution on both, the Xbox One and the PlayStation 4- the Xbox One version runs between 765p and 900p, while the PlayStation 4 version will run between 900p and 1080p. Worryingly enough from a performance standpoint, however, Tabata wasn’t too committal on the framerate for either version, noting only that the frame rate ‘holds close to’ the 30fps target.

No discussions were made of hypothetical Scorpio and NEO versions, which would presumably benefit in terms of resolution and framerate owing to those consoles’ extra power- though that may be because Microsoft and Sony themselves have not yet officially shared many details on the new systems.

Final Fantasy 15 will launch on Xbox One and PlayStation 4 on November 29.
