The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild Expansion Pass Announced

Two DLC packs launching later this year, plus some exclusive content for those who purchase the Pass.

Nintendo has gone ahead and announced an Expansion Pass for its upcoming, eagerly anticipated The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. The Expansion Pass will sell for $20 (£17.99/€19.99), and will include two DLC drops, one in the Summer, and one later in the year.

The first content pack is scheduled to launch this Summer and will include the addition of a Cave of Trials challenge, a new hard mode and a new feature for the in-game map. The second content pack will launch in Holiday 2017, and adds new challenges that will let players enjoy a new dungeon and a new original story. Additionally, those who purchase the Expansion Pack will get three new in game treasure chests, one of which will have a shirt with a Nintendo Switch logo which Link can wear during his adventure, exclusive to the Expansion Pass. The other two chests will have useful items within them.

Notably, these DLC packs cannot be bought individually- you have to purchase the Expansion Pass. So if, like me, you are only interested in the story DLC pack that is due for later in the year, you will still have to purchase the entire Expansion Pass. Which is really annoying.

You can see a video of Nintendo’s Eiji Aonuma explaining the DLC below. The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild launches on Nintendo Switch and Wii U on March 3.
