The Witcher Series Has Now Sold Over 25 Million Units Worldwide

Raking in the moolah, and well deserved too.

CD Projekt RED has been persistently working away at The Witcher series, putting out highly acclaimed games – none more so than 2015’s superlative and genre defining The Witcher 3, but still – steadily. The result is that CD Projekt’s series has been rewarded with extremely high sales, especially for RPGs, which until recently, didn’t sell all that well.

How high? Since 2007, The Witcher series has sold 25 million units worldwide, the company confirmed in its latest financial briefing.

“For years we have consistently prioritized quality and focused on a limited range of products. The persistently strong sales of the entire The Witcher series vindicate our approach and contribute to long-term appeal of our releases. Between the launch of The Witcher in 2007 and the end of 2016 we have sold over 25 million copies of The Witcher games,” Adam Kiciński, President of CD PROJEKT, noted with pride.

“This year we will continue to expand The Witcher brand – it is, after all, the year of GWENT. We’re in the process of organizing the game’s first major tournament, with a $100,000 USD prize pool. Another crucial round of beta tests will commence in spring, with the retail release to follow in the second half of 2017.”

The Witcher series may not actually be over- CD Projekt recently admitted that not making a fourth game in the series would be almost irresponsible of them. While a fourth game is not yet announced, if it were to release, it’s safe to presume it would not star Geralt of Rivia, since his story was concluded with Wild Hunt. Maybe it could star Ciri?

But we’re getting ahead of ourselves here- before any of that happens, we need to finally see CyberPunk 2077, which hopefully is due out by June 2019.
