Rocket League Dev Talks Sony Not Opting for Cross-Platform Play on PS4

Everything is ready to go on Pysonix's end.

Ever since Sony refused to integrate the PlayStation 4 into crossplay for games like Rocket League and Minecraft, there’s been a wealth of opinions available on the same. Psyonix VP of publishing Jeremy Dunham offered his take to Polygon.

Dunham said that, “The honest answer is PlayStation has not yet granted us permission.”

He feels that cross-platform play is “the future of the industry” hopes that the “community and the media can actually help get around the idea of pushing it forward and doing what we can to make it reality.”

As of Rocket League, Psyonix is ready to go as soon as Sony gives the word. In fact, it’s willing to do anything possible to make it happen.

“We run all the servers. The way that it works is we connect everyone through our own system, we handle everything ourselves… I can tell you this: From Psyonix, we would do whatever we would need to do to make it possible to be cross-network play with all the other platforms and PlayStation 4. They just need to tell us what that is.

“It’s literally something we could do with a push of a button, metaphorically. In reality it’s a web page with a checkbox on it. All we have to do is check that box and it would be up and running in less than an hour all over the world. That’s all we need to do.”

Sony’s Jim Ryan did offer his take on why PS4 users won’t be able to play with Nintendo Switch and Xbox One users. You can check his explanation here.
