Why I Would Take A New Game of Thrones Game From Bethesda Over The Elder Scrolls 6

Here's why I'm willing to wait for a sequel to Skyrim a bit longer.

The Elder Scrolls is, without a doubt, one of the biggest franchises in our industry, and there’s literally millions of people who are eagerly looking forward to the next game in the series- but that’s not coming anytime soon. Bethesda have confirmed several times that they’re prioritising other projects over The Elder Scrolls 6, and recent reports have claimed that one of those projects is a Game of Thrones RPG. Unfortunately though, it has been confirmed that those reports were not accurate. And that is indeed unfortunate. Because I for one am perfectly willing to wait a little longer for the next game in the Elder Scrolls series.

Game of Thrones’ Westeros is a world that is rich and enticing, a setting that is perfect for Bethsda that have created places such as Morrowind, Skyrim and Cyrodiil. World building is one of the things the RPG studio excels at, and world building is, incidentally, also one of the biggest strengths of George R.R. Martin’s A Song of Ice and Fire universe. Can you imagine being able to trek across a fully realized Westeros? Truding along the Kingsroad, sailing to the Iron Islands, ranging Beyond the Wall, politicking in King’s Landing.

It would certainly require a lot of work, and Bethesda would definitely need much better writers and choice and consequence mechanics if they are to truly capture the complex and morally challenging nature of the Game of Thrones stories that we all know and love so well, but it is certainly a mouth watering prospect. A proper open world Game of Thrones RPG almost makes too much sense, and it’s a shame that that hasn’t been done by someone already.

Here’s hoping that Bethesda are the ones to finally do it.
