PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds Dev Will Test Vaulting More in Early November

Bluehole offers an update on the much anticipated feature and explains the delay.

PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds

PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds has been causing a stir since release, selling more than 10 million copies since entering Early Access and crossing over 1 million concurrent players on Steam. However, one of the more promoted features in vaulting has yet to arrive. The feature was first teased back in June during the E3 PC Gaming Show.

While it may not be coming any time soon, developer Bluehole did offer an update as to when more testing will occur. In a recent blog post, action and gunplay lead Pawel Smolewski said that since it wasn’t built on “predefined objects or locations”, not to mention the number of objects in the world, the system has to work off of an algorithm to see what can and can’t be vaulted over.

Because of the sheer quantity of objects in the game with their different properties, the system instead relies on an algorithm to detect and analyse what can and cannot be vaulted over and climbed.

“The algorithm is quite complex and requires rigorous testing and fine-tuning of the map. Testing it for only a couple of days before deployment on the live servers won’t be enough for us to identify all bugs and side effects.”

The development team is looking to test vaulting for longer in early November but vaulting could also be added to test servers sooner for a short time. In the meantime, it’s back to playing the waiting game and hoping that Bluehole gets it (mostly) right before deploying.
