Super Meat Boy Forever Dev On PS4 Pro And Xbox One X War: “Everyone Is Winning”

Team Meat's Tommy Refenes talks about people staying with the consoles they like.

After many years in development, Team Meat’s Super Meat Boy Forever is actually coming. Though it started as a mobile title, the sequel to the acclaimed and notoriously difficult platformer will be heading to Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, PS4 and PC.

Though Edmund McMillen isn’t involved, Tommy Refenes is still very much bringing the tale of Meat Boy and Bandage Girl to life with randomly generated levels, a constant running mechanic and scaling difficulties. With Super Meat Boy debuting during the heyday of the Xbox 360 and heading to other platforms, we spoke to Refenes about the war between this generation’s most powerful consoles, namely the PS4 Pro and upcoming Xbox One X.

When asked about the “war”, Refenes said, “Is it a war? I kinda feel like they’re just putting out more powerful versions of themselves because they know that’s what their fans are looking forward to. I don’t think many people are going to switch from PS4 to Xbox One X or Xbox One to PS4 Pro…

“I think most people are just going to upgrade based on personal preference. People like their consoles and they’ll probably stay with what they like. At the end of the day though it’s not so much about the consoles it’s about the games and it seems like most AAA games are on both. So…if it’s a war it kinda feels like everyone is winning.”

He’s not Wrong. While the PS4 has titles like Nier: Automata, Horizon: Zero Dawn, Nioh and Persona 5 and the Xbox One has Forza Motorsport 7, Halo Wars 2 and Cuphead, there are a number of great third party titles on both platforms. If players on either console have something fun to play, then that’s all that matters.

As for Super Meat Boy Forever, you can expect it to release in 2018 for current gen platforms, iOS and Android. Stay tuned for our full interview with Tommy Refenes soon.
