Star Citizen Squadron 42 Will Not be Showcased at CitizenCon

This probably means Squadron 42 won't release in 2017.

Star Citizen is a game that has been crowdfunded, with the latest information being that the game’s funding has exceeded 161 million dollars. It should come as no surprise then that developer Cloud Imperium Games (CIG) has lofty expectations to meet. It has been announced that the game’s annual event, CitizenCon will be held in Frankfrut, Germany on October 27th.

However, we won’t be seeing much of the single player campaign Squadron 42 at the event. Director Chris Roberts however has stated that we will see more of the game in a livestream in December:

“We have a large team working on Squadron 42 and we’ve been making good progress towards achieving my goal to take the Wing Commander style narrative experience to the next level with first-person gameplay that moves between foot, vehicles and incredible locations all rendered with a fluidity and quality that you normally only see in pre-rendered cinematic scenes. I am confident it is going to be worth the wait; a game that can hold its own with any other AAA story game. I am excited to show you some of this in December.”

While the team has had to repeatedly delay the release of the game, it is inevitable as the funding for the game has kept soaring and meeting new stretch goals. Squadron 42 is certainly a single-player experience worth looking out for as it includes a star studded cast with the likes of Gary Oldman, Mark Hamill, Andy Serkis and more.

Hopefully, CIG will be able to meet expectations not only with the massive multiplayer experience but also with the single-player campaign.
