This Holiday season promises to be extremely interesting, with Sony, Nintendo, and Microsoft all well equipped to go head on and do well. But while Nintendo is going to have a brand new console with a fresh new exclusive, Sony and Microsoft will offer the PS4 Pro and the Xbox One X respectively, which are iterative improvements on their existing systems.
Nevertheless, both systems should do well. In fact, according to AMD’s President and CEO, Dr. Lisa T. Su, demand for both consoles is anticipated to be strong this Holiday season. AMD’s opinion matters, because they are the folks who design the APUs for both systems.
“Our semi-custom business continues to perform as expected for the year and we anticipate seasonal demand to remain healthy as our customers enter the holiday sales cycle with Sony’s PlayStation 4 Pro and Microsoft’s Xbox One X,” Dr. Tsu said in the company’s most recent financial earnings call with investors.
Of course, for AMD, it doesn’t matter which of the two, Xbox One X or PS4 Pro, sells more- both are powered by their silicon anyway. It will be interesting to see what the breakdown for final sales of the two systems is like- will Microsoft’s more powerful new system triumph, or will Sony’s cheaper console?
