Sony Has Shipped 67.5 Million PS4 Units

Predicts to sell total of 19 million units by the end of the fiscal year.

Sony announced its financial results for the quarter which ended on September 30th. The highlight is that the PS4 has now shipped 67.5 million units worldwide, including the 4.2 million units sent to retailers during the quarter. Sony is now predicting to sell 19 million units of the console by the end of this fiscal year.  This would mean that the company is expecting to sell a total of 79 million units  by  March 31st,2018 with the updated forecast.

Sony’s Game & Network Services division which includes the PlayStation business saw an increase in sales by about 35.4 % over the year. The increase has been attributed to strong PS4 game sales, including digital sales and also hardware sales.

On the whole for Sony, the game business has contributed directly to an increase in revenue over the year.  Overall, the company has had a strong quarter with an increase in sales by 22 % and a jump in operating income by 346.4 percent.
