After Sony’s E3 2017 conference, many were somewhat baffled by the lack of tons of new announcements. Sony had been famous for announcing things well in advance after all. Instead, it took to showing games like Sucker Punch’s Ghost of Tsushima during Paris Games Week. This wasn’t because the PS4 exclusive was in trouble or anything though. Senior VP at PlayStation Worldwide Studios Michael Denny told GameSpot that there is a “right time” when it comes to announcements.

When quizzed about some thinking things were less than positive at Sucker Punch, Denny said, “Yeah, that’s a strange one to me. I think the right thing to do…and I think we’re learning and a lot of publishers are learning…there is a right time to announce games.”

Though Sony has received a fair amount of criticism for announcing games too many years in advance, it felt that now was the right time to finally unveil Ghost of Tsushima. “In the past, I think it’s fair to say sometimes we announced games too early. And this is such a great project for Sucker Punch. It’s a game they’ve always really wanted to make themselves,” said Denny.

“And I think it’s the right time to announce that, and they’ve been working on that game for a long time now. There is great [playable version of the game] already. So we’re just excited to let everybody know about it.”

Ghost of Tsushima is set in 1274 when the Mongol Army invaded Japan and hit Tsushima Island first. Players assume the role of a Samurai who must fight back against a powerful enemy, traveling across a sprawling open land to do so. The sheer opulence of Feudal Japan, from its lush green forests to the impressive castles, will be showcased. Ghost of Tsushima doesn’t have a release date yet.
