Xbox One X Delivering Native 4K in Graphically Demanding Games Certainly Possible – Everspace Dev

Can the Xbox One X provide native 4K in more graphically demanding titles? Rockfish's CEO responds.

Xbox One X

We’ve seen the Xbox One X perform admirably well when it comes to native 4K in games like Fallout 4 and so on. However, what we’re really wondering is if the console will be able to handle even more graphically demanding titles at native 4K or default to other techniques to get it done. After all, if the console was marketed off the promises of 4K gaming, it’s a given that it should offer native 4K results.

GamingBolt turned to Rockfish Games CEO Michael Schade, who’s company brought us Everspace, and asked if the Xbox One X (in his opinion) had enough graphical horsepower to natively render more graphically demanding games at native 4K. Or perhaps it would go for “shortcuts” like checkerboard rendering instead?

Schade responded that, “It really depends on the frame rate you would like to achieve, the type of game and the amount of graphical effects. Some games can be more CPU than GPU bound. I’d say it’s certainly possible. We’re still not done with our work on the Xbox One X version, so it’s maybe a little early to say anything definitively.”

We also asked if the performance gap is shrinking because consoles are more like PCs now with their x86 architecture. “Yes, it definitely is an advantage that they are closer in architecture. It will reduce development time and enable consoles to benefit from new hardware sooner.”

Having released worldwide on November 7th for $499, the Xbox One X has certainly been performing well in sales, at least according to Microsoft. Stay tuned for our full interview with Michael Schade in the coming days.
