Destiny 2’s The Dawning Doesn’t Let You Earn Event-Based Bright Engrams

It also sets ridiculous prices for its merchandise and locks it behind the Eververse cash shop.

Destiny 2 The Dawning 2017

Bungie seemingly can’t get enough of ruining Destiny 2 and its first seasonal event The Dawning represents that. Though it’s added content like Mayhem PvP and snowball fights – the former already a part of base Destiny – it throws the majority of its loot and cosmetics behind the Eververse store.

For instance, the new Dawning armour? You can only get it from Eververse which requires either spending absurd amounts of Bright Dust or getting lucky with Bright Engrams (aka RNG loot boxes). But you can earn Bright Engrams by leveling up, right? Here’s the kicker – unlike, say, Overwatch where the seasonal loot boxes replace the normal ones, Destiny 2 doesn’t give you Dawning-based Bright Engrams. Instead, you get the regular Bright Engrams and the contents inside must be dismantled for Bright Dust.

It gets better though. You can take up various quests with vendors and NPCs to receive “gifts” from them, which equate to Dawning shaders and probably a Dawning Class item. Breaking those down doesn’t give Bright Dust. But if you break down the same Dawning shader purchased from Eververse, you do get Bright Dust.  A whopping seven Bright Dust. Someone at Bungie decided to code and ensure that you could not get free Bright Dust from Dawning items earned in-game despite the same items purchased from Eververse giving Bright Dust when dismantled.

Keep in mind that new Ghost Shells, ships and shaders (which are still consumable, by the way) are still locked behind Eververse rather than, say, being post-Crucible or Strike drops.

Destiny 2 fans aren’t happy, to say the least, as this just represents even more Eververse invasiveness. Tack on all the bugs and shabby end-game (which Masterworks has begun to solve) and it’s amazing Bungie would even go this route. What are your thoughts on the whole matter? Let us know below.

And hey, at least there’s still games like Divinity: Original Sin 2, right?
