Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 Features Battle Royale Mode Developed by Raven Software – Rumour

Battle Royale mode will apparently replace single-player campaign.

Following a report from Polygon that Treyarch’s Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 wouldn’t have a traditional single-player campaign, Charlie Intel is now reporting that the game will have a Battle Royale mode taking its place.

An anonymous tipster told Charlie Intel last month that there wouldn’t be a campaign. This same tipster also noted the addition of a Battle Royale mode developed by Raven Software (which worked on Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Remastered). Since anonymous sources spilled the beans elsewhere, it’s not completely impossible that there’s no single-player campaign but we’d still take these rumours with a huge grain of salt.

That’s because sources told Polygon that the campaign had been pushed aside since it wouldn’t make the release date. However, Charlie Intel’s tipster said that Activision cancelled the campaign for being “too out there” and “outlandish”. If these rumours are true, it could be “a bit of Column A, a bit of Column B”.

Activision management did speak to investment firm Oppenheimer last month and revealed that it was “keenly aware” of the Battle Royale genre’s popularity. It also reminded investors that even with other developers benefiting from the genre, Activision was a “faster follower”. Would it really have Battle Royale replace a single-player campaign though?

Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 will be out on October 12th and an official reveal is set to take place on May 17th. Will this year’s iteration mark the end of an era when it comes to Call of Duty campaigns? Time will tell so stay tuned.
