Team Ninja’s Nioh 2 was a surprise announcement during Sony’s E3 2018 presser. It’s not that original wasn’t successful enough to justify one – rather, it was in development for such a long period and released in February 2017. While we have no indication as to when Nioh 2 is releasing, director Fumihiko Yasuda provided some new information to Polygon during the PlayStation Live stream at E3.
As it turns out, William Adams won’t be making a return. Instead there will be a character creator that lets players customize the protagonist’s look and gender. Furthermore, while there won’t be any “dramatic change” from the original, but the developer will correct a few things that it wasn’t satisfied with in the original.
Furthermore, Yasuda noted (as per PCGamesN) that players would be able to use Yokai powers as the reveal trailer teased. “You’ll be able to feel some of the yokai skills and moves, which should bring the action system to the next level.”
Finally, players can look forward to Nioh 2 being a “masocore” game (masochistic + hardcore) like the original in terms of difficulty but with “more satisfying deaths for players.” A free demo will also be coming before the game launches just like with its predecessor.
