Octopath Traveler Is Out Now On Nintendo Switch, Looks Beautiful In New Launch Trailer

An epic tale – or eight – awaits on the Nintendo Switch.

Octopath Traveler has been an extremely exciting prospect for all Nintendo Switch owners. It looks like a classic throwback to the golden 16- and 32-bit days of JRPGs, made in vein of all-time great Final Fantasy 6, and made specifically to cater to JRPG fans. For all those who’ve been giddily anticipating the game’s launch – myself included – today is a good day. Octopath Traveler is out now on Nintendo Switch.

To celebrate its launch, Nintendo, who are co-publishing alongside Square Enix, have released a launch trailer for the game, which you can view below. It serves as a sort of overview of the game and how it’s structured- you may already be familiar with this information, but Octopath Traveler features eight main characters, and you can choose to play as any one of them, to experience their stories, their pasts, and where they’re headed next.

However, the trailer also makes it perfectly clear that you will be able to experience the stories of all eight protagonists in one single playthrough, regardless of who you start out as. Other than that, in the trailer there’s snippets of beautiful looking locations, brief looks at the combat, and a great deal more, all of it rendered in the game’s hybrid pixel-HD art style. It’s a pretty meaty video, and if for some reason you haven’t bought the game already, it might change your mind.

Reviews for the game have been very positive as well. It currently holds a score of 84 on OpenCritic. If you’re wondering where our own review is, sadly we didn’t receive a review code for the game, but don’t worry- we’re playing it right now, and our review should be up soon (hopefully sometime next week). Stay tuned.
