Metal Gear Solid Movie Director Is Fully Committed To Adapting Kojima’s True Vision of The Series

Jordan Vogt-Roberts has some pretty clear ideas on what he wants the Metal Gear movie to be.

Jordan Vogt-Roberts, the director of the successful 2017 film Kong: Skull Island, has been tapped up to direct a big screen adaptation of the Metal Gear Solid franchise, which is a fact we’ve known for some time now. Something else we’ve known is that Vogt-Roberts is not just a vocal fan of the medium of video games, but that he’s also a very vocal fan of Hideo Kojima himself, and all the work he’s done over the years, especially Metal Gear Solid.

That dedication to the medium, the franchise, and its creator are all easily apparent whenever the man speaks of his upcoming Metal Gear Solid movie, a project that’s been in early development for some time. And he did so again- while speaking with IGN, Vogt-Roberts said that along with co-scriptwriter Derek Connelly, he has been reworking the script since August of 2017 to make sure that it better reflects the tone and style of Kojima’s own games, in order to be as perfect an adaptation as it can be, a goal they’re prioritizing above all else as far as this specific project is concerned.

He said, “Let’s really think about whether we’re making the truest, most balls-to-the-wall Metal Gear version of this–the most Kojima version of this, and even if that means we make it for a little bit less money, let’s make the version of this that’s true to what it is, fully committed to what Kojima’s voice is.”

In the interview, Vogt-Roberts also talked about the nature of video games movies, and why they’ve failed to do well thus far, and which video game films are his personal favourites (hint: they’re not even based on video games). It’s an interesting conversation, so check out the interview through the link above. Meanwhile, Vogt-Roberts has also been displaying his love for the Metal Gear franchise by releasing daily doses of fan art-work of the series to celebrate its 31st anniversary.
