Battlefield 5

With the open beta for DICE’s Battlefield 5 ending recently, fans voiced their concerns about the various map sizes in multiplayer. The chief concern was that current map sizes were too small, and not quite up to par with Battlefield 3 and 4. Even if this is a beta, and not indicative of the final product, the game is roughly two months away, and maps aren’t something that can be radically changed to meet such demands in that period.

To address this, lead multiplayer designer Valerian Noghin shared the map size for Hamada on Breakthrough. From the attacker’s HQ to the defenders’ final fifth sector, that’s a distance of more than 1.5 km. He further confirmed that “most” of the map would be playable for Conquest.

Level designer Jeff Gagné also reassured players that big maps were being made. “I know, I know, it’s easy to come to conclusions but jeez, the game is not released and we are starting to share info,” he said on Twitter.

Battlefield 5 will be out on November 20th for Xbox One, PS4 and PC. It was originally slated to release in October but faced a subsequent delay for the sake of more polishing and implementing feedback from the open beta. In the meantime, DICE confirmed the multiplayer modes that would be available at launch along with providing more details on Firestorm, the upcoming Battle Royale mode.
