Red Dead Redemption 2 “Absolutely Not Coming to PC”, Rockstar Says

Well, that’s a pretty explicit denial.

Red Dead Redemption 2 has so far only been announced for Xbox One and PS4, but the general expectation has been that it will eventually get a release on PC, just like Grand Theft Auto 5 eventually did. After all, that worked out well for Rockstar– not only did GTA 5 and Online get a huge following on PC, but the publisher managed to pick up a lot of double dippers along the way, too.

However, Rockstar, on their part, are maintaining that the game will absolutely not come to PC. Speaking in a stream with Multiplayer.it on Twitch, the publisher very flatly, explicitly, and unambiguously shot down the possibility of a PC port for the upcoming game.

Now, to be fair, the original Red Dead Redemption also did not come to PC- but things now are different enough from then. For starters, the original game’s code was a total mess, thanks to a very protracted and fractured development cycle, which made a port implausible to begin with. Secondly, as noted already, the success of GTA Online on PC would be reason enough for Rockstar to look into a PC port eventually.

My personal opinion is that a PC port of the game will definitely end up happening, but Rockstar, for now, wants people to buy the console versions, instead of holding out for the PC port, so they won’t admit to it.

Red Dead Redemption 2 launches for PS4 and Xbox One on October 26. Red Dead Online enters open beta in November.
