Treyarch’s Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 launched this past Friday and has already set a new record for the franchise. According to Activision, the first person shooter’s day one digital sales were the biggest in company history, surpassing the previous record set by Call of Duty: WW2. Its sales also doubled last year’s PC version sales.

If that weren’t enough, Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 was also the PlayStation Store’s best selling digital game in history, topping last year’s entry in the process. Of course, it was also the best selling Activision title for Xbox One digitally at launch as well. Finally, double the amount of players were online on launch day compared to last year.

Rob Kostich, EVP and GM of Call of Duty, recently stated, “Black Ops 4 is an incredible game, and the community’s response to it has been amazing. We have shattered multiple digital day one sales records, and the number of people who connected online on day one to play has grown year on year.

“But probably the most important thing is that the community is having so much fun across Multiplayer, Zombies and Blackout. We are so incredibly thankful for the community’s trust and support. This is just the beginning, it’s going to be an incredible journey with Black Ops 4.”

This isn’t really too much of a surprise. Nielsen recently conducted a survey that stated Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 was the most anticipated game of the Holiday season. It beat out other multiplatform titles like Red Dead Redemption 2, Battlefield 5, and Assassin’s Creed Odyssey in the process.
