Call of Duty Black Ops 4

Treyarch’s Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 was always slated to do well. Though it’s only been three days since launch, Activision has confirmed that digital and retail sales of the multiplayer-centric shooter have grossed $500 million. If that figure sounds familiar, it’s because Call of Duty: WW2 also hit the same milestone in its first three days.

In terms of day one digital sales though, Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 surpassed last year’s iteration. It sold double the amount of copies on PC, and double the number of players were online at launch as compared to last year. The average hours per player, total number of hours played, and combined player count is also the highest for the series on current-gen consoles, even beating out Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 during the same period.

Despite the lack of a single-player campaign, none of this is really surprising. Call of Duty continues to be a juggernaut franchise, and Black Ops 4 will continue engaging players thanks to both free and paid post-launch content.
