Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 Dev Addresses Network Performance Concerns

"We're constantly working to optimize the game, and particularly network performance," says Treyarch.

Call of Duty Black Ops 4

Activision’s Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 has been a major success, garnering $500 million in sales in just three days. However, the real challenge begins now, as Treyarch copes with issues like the recent controversy with server send rate. Following the most recent update, players discovered that the multiplayer send rate was at 20 Hz, compared to 60 Hz from the beta.

Naturally, this raised concerns over Treyarch cutting resources after the strong initial sales period. In a response on the game’s official subreddit, the developer sought to address this: “We’re constantly working to optimize the game, and particularly network performance, to ensure the highest quality online experience for our players.

“For a game launch with as massive a population as ours hitting so many global servers at once, we configure our infrastructure to ensure game stability as the highest priority over all other factors. Now that we’re past the initial launch of the game, we are focusing on fine-tuning network performance around the globe, using the real-world data that we have collected.”

It’s not too far-fetched to believe this. After all, Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 had double the number of players on launch day compared to last year’s Call of Duty: WW2. The developer further stated, “Over the course of the next two weeks, we will roll out several updates to our network setup that will continue to improve upon the experience of our players since launch.

“As we have always said, launch is just the beginning, and we’re committed to making Black Ops 4 the best-supported game we’ve ever delivered. This is a journey that will involve constant adjustments, improvements, and additions. We appreciate your continued support and patience – thank you!”

Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 is currently available for Xbox One, PS4 and PC. Despite recent issues, the sales response has been fairly positive – it’s currently in its second week atop the UK charts according to Gfk Chart-Track.
