Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice – Full Stealth Playthrough Won’t Be Possible, According to FromSoftware

Though there will be plenty of avenues for speed running, a full stealth playthrough likely won't be possible.

FromSoftware’s upcoming Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice is looking to provide an experience that’s quite different from their previous Dark Souls games, giving players increased mobility, faster combat, and more importantly, plenty of opportunities for taking the stealthy route. We’ve already seen some of the latter in action, while the developers themselves have said that stealth will be an important part of Sekiro.

But while that may be true, those who’re hoping to be able to play the entirety of the game as a sleuthing shinobi might be disappointed. Recently, while speaking with DualShockers, FromSoftware’s communications manager Yasuhiro Kitao said that though Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice will provide fans with some speed running opportunities, it most likely won’t be possible to do a full stealth playthrough of the game, especially in light of boss fights, which, as you can imagine, are going to be unskippable.

“Of course you’ll still need to defeat the bosses,” Kitao said. “We don’t know if a full-stealth approach will be possible just yet, but much like the Dark Souls speedrun scene, there are definitely some speedrun elements in there that I think fans are going to enjoy.”

To be completely honest, if I’m playing a FromSoftware game, skipping boss fights to take the stealthy route is the last thing I’d want to do. Stealth does seem to be an important part of the game nonetheless, and what we’ve seen of it so far looks slick, so hopefully that should be enough.

A bunch of gameplay footage was shown off from the game recently as part of a livestream with Kitao. You can take a look at it through hereSekiro: Shadows Die Twice launches on March 22, 2019 for the PS4, Xbox One, and PC.
