Fallout 76’s Day One Patch Is Larger Than The Game Itself At 51.6 GB

The trend of ridiculously huge day one patches continues...

Bethesda’s been quite honest about the fact that Fallout 76 is going to face issues at launch- not only is it a BGS game, which are notoriously glitchy, as an online-only title, it’s also something completely new for them, which means that they’re going to face issues the likes of which they never have in the past.

Many of these, we’ve already come across in the beta, from problems with the game’s frame-rate to other, larger issues that even prevented some people from playing altogether. And just as the beta received a hefty patch to iron out some of these issues not so long ago, the full game itself will also be receiving a day one patch, as spotted by PSU.

And this, too, is hefty. As in, heftier than the game itself. The game’s day one patch weighs a whopping 51.641 GB. The base game itself, for comparison’s sake, comes in at 45.04 GB. Considering the fact that this is an online-only game, you also won’t have the option to play it without the patch downloaded, because it needs to be online, which can’t happen without the update. So if you were planning on playing the game while the patch downloads in the background, that’s not an option. What this means, essentially, is that Fallout 76’s total size is 96.65 GB.

Clear some space on your hard drives then. Fallout 76 launches on November 14 for the PS4, Xbox One, and PC.
