Fallout 76 PC Mods Fix Two of its Most Annoying Issues

These two Fallout 76 mods address issues with inventory management and performance.

Fallout 76

If you’ve read our graphics analysis for Fallout 76 (or really, if you’ve read anything about Fallout 76), you probably know that the game suffers from major performance issues and a gruellingly unstable frame rate. However, a mod made by a fan for the game’s PC version addresses these issues, so if you’re looking for a quick fix while Bethesda works on it on its end, this might help you out.

Made by NexusMods user S3AN, the mod is essentially a bunch of .ini files that find a simple and easy solution to Fallout 76’s performance issues- which is to lower the quality of visual effects and things like shadows and terrain textures. Fallout 76 isn’t the most technically stunning game out there to begin with, so you might be averse to lowering its quality further, but if you’re more worried about performance (as you should be), this seems like a good solution, at least on a temporary basis.

Another one of Fallout 76’s biggest issues is its unwieldy and messy inventory management. It was messy in Fallout 4 as well, but combined with the game’s always-online nature and emphasized survival mechanics, it’s become even more of a mess to navigate. That, too, has been addressed by a mod, made by NexusMods user RatMonkeys. The mod lets you categorize items in your inventory by adding tags to them, with a total of over 20 tags. Sounds like a dream come true, if you’ve played even more than a few hours of Fallout 76.

To be fair, Bethesda have promised a major patch for Fallout 76 today, and they say that the UI and performance issues are two things that they’ll be looking to address with it. Here’s hoping those who don’t want to download these mods, or cannot, owing to being console players, won’t need to once the patch is out.
