Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Becomes Fastest Selling Smash and Nintendo Home Console Game In Australia As Well

Literally no one is surprised by these reports anymore.

This is getting a little repetitive now. Since its launch almost two weeks ago, Super Smash Bros. Ultimate has been breaking sales records left, right, and centre. On top of moving a massive number of units across the world, it has also proven to be a very fast seller. It sold over 3 million units in 11 days in the US, where it became the fastest selling Smash Bros. game ever. It also topped the UK charts in its debut week, where it also became the fastest selling Smash Bros. game for the region.

Then it turned out its European success wasn’t restricted to just the UK, but all of, well, Europe, where – you guessed it – it has become the fastest selling Super Smash Bros. game ever, while also becoming the fastest selling home console game Nintendo had ever made, outpacing anything they have put out on consoles from the days of the NES to the current generation. And now, it’s passed that exact same record in the Australian continent as well (Australia and New Zeleand). In both countries, it has become the fastest selling Smash Bros. game and Nintendo home console game of all time.

“We are thrilled that Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is now both the fastest-selling game in the series and our fastest-selling home console game in Australia and New Zealand,” said Nintendo Australia’s Managing Director Kamon Yoshimura in a statement (via Nintendo Life). “Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is the biggest Super Smash Bros. ever, and we look forward to bringing exciting experiences to players in 2019 with new games in the Animal Crossing and Pokémon series, alongside Yoshi’s Crafted World, Fire Emblem: Three Houses, and more.”

It seems the Switch’s impressive and, in Nintendo’s own words, historic software sales aren’t going to be slowing any time soon. In Japan also, Smash Ultimate has been selling very well, and recently crossed 1.6 million units within 11 days of its launch. Read more on that through here.
