The studio behind Hitman, IO Interactive, clearly has some plans brewing for expansion following them becoming an independent studio in 2017. They’ve announced that they’ve opened up a new studio in Malmö, Sweden, becoming their second studio, with the first being in Copenhagen.
What’s really interesting is that in their announcement, they tease some interesting things about where they plan to go in the future following this expansion, even mentioning “new franchises”. “This will expand our muscles for creating brand-new and exciting endeavours, new universes, new franchises. In other words, IOI Malmö and Copenhagen are one family,” says IO Interactive CEO Hakan Abrak.
“The IOI expansion in Malmö was a natural choice as there is a very strong existing video game industry,” Abrak continues. “I believe it has all opportunities to become the epicentre of game development in Scandinavia.”
Considering how good Hitman 2 was (and how good its predecessor was, for that matter), this is very exciting news, and I’m curious to see what new projects they work on. An expanded workforce should surely help them realize their ambitions even better than they have been doing.
Meanwhile, IO Interactive has also constantly been supporting Hitman 2, with everything from Elusive Targets, to Escalation Contracts, to some significant patches and updates. The game is currently available on PS4, Xbox One, and PC.
