ECHO developer Ultra Ultra has announced its closure on Twitter. Based in Copenhagen and composed of former IO Interactive employees, it confirmed that ECHO will still be available to purchase on various digital storefronts. Furthermore, those curious about the film can relax – it’s still “in the works”, as per the former developer.
ECHO is currently available for PC and PS4. It launched in September 2017 and attracted quite a bit of attention for its premise. It sees En, a mysterious girl placed in stasis for a century, entering The Palace. With a mission to “bring back a life”, En must deal with The Palace creating copies of her.
These copies – or Echoes – are capable of reenacting movements and actions that En performs. Sneaking around makes them sneak. Firing a gun causes them to learn the same. A blackout does happen at intervals to “update” the various Echoes, and also allows the player to do anything without fear of their actions being copied.
We’re terribly sad to report that Ultra Ultra has ceased to exist. We are grateful to have had the chance to crystallize something truly from the heart. ECHO will remain available on stores.
