inXile Entertainment might have been acquired by Microsoft, but they still have one final independent game left to deliver before they go all in as an exclusive first party studio for their new publisher. That game is the upcoming Wasteland 3, the crowd-funded RPG that they announced before their acquisition from Microsoft had been finalized.

Recently, the developers shared an update on the crowdfunding platform Fig, where they spoke of the game’s development, how far along it is in terms of progress, and when we can expect to hear more about it. Apparently, there’s still “a megaton of work left to go” as far as development is concerned, but we can expect to hear more of the game come E3 next month.

“The game is effectively playable from start to finish—but there’s still a megaton of work left to go,” the developer wrote. “Sure, you can complete quests and navigate most of the areas, but this is the most time-intensive stretch of the project. We have the bones—the skeleton is there—but it’s filling it with all the sinew, cartilage, and guts that really make the Wasteland experience what it is. Things are really shaping up, but the most critical work is just getting started. We’ve been hiring and growing the company, as well as putting a lot of the new Microsoft development resources to good use, and that’s going to help us be able to make Wasteland 3 even bigger and better.

“We’ll have development updates to share during E3, so look forward to our next update with more specifics then.”

The developer also gave reassurances that Wasteland 3 won’t be opting for exclusivity on any particular storefront (read: Epic Games Store), and that it will be available on Steam and GOG, as had been promised to backers while funding was going on.

“To restate it again: we’re committed to our backer promises, and you can expect the Steam and GOG versions of the game on launch day,” they wrote. “No store exclusivity. We’re looking forward to sharing more with you during E3!”

Wasteland 3 is supposed to be out in Q4 of this year for the PS4, Xbox One, and PC, but hopefully we’ll be hearing about a more concrete launch window or date at E3. Developers inXile Entertainment have another unannounced game in the works as well that Microsoft is “quite keen on”- read more about that through here.
