Following the first ever trailer for the game, Infinity Ward has confirmed that Call of Duty: Modern Warfare will not have a “traditional” season pass. The focus will be on free maps and content, along with post-launch events. Furthermore, cross-platform multiplayer between Xbox One, PS4, and PC users has been confirmed for launch.

In a recent statement (via Polygon), Infinity Ward said, “With the launch of Modern Warfare, the team is taking steps to unite the community. First, the team plans for Modern Warfare to be played together across PC and console through cross-play support.

“Also, the team is eliminating the traditional season pass, so that they can deliver more free maps and content as well as post-launch events to all players.”

Of course, there are a number of questions to be asked. What does the removal of the season pass mean for timed exclusive DLC on certain platforms? What will the game’s monetization system look like? How often will players receive new maps and content?

We’re not sure, but Call of Duty: Modern Warfare is still a ways off. It’s releasing on October 25th worldwide, so Infinity Ward has plenty of time to iron out the details. The developer will also appear at the E3 Coliseum event to talk more about the game, so stay tuned for that in the meantime.
