The name may sound simple, but actually has several potential layers.

Control is fast approaching us, and it definitely looks like it has a lot of potential to be something special. Being just over a month away, we’ve gotten a lot information recently, especially in regards to the game’s length and the environmental storytelling. But what about the game’s name? Is it just a simple, easy to understand name, or is there something else here? Well, the game’s developers say it is more than just a name- it can have several meanings.

In an interview with Wccftech, Game Director Mikael Kasurinen and Narrative Designer Brooke Maggs discussed several aspects of the game, one which was the meaning of Control. Obviously, it’s a game about controlling the environment with the main character’s multiple powers, but also about taking back control from The Hiss, the main antagonists of the game’s plot. It really is a simple title with a lot of layers.

“Yeah, the word control has a deep meaning to our experience overall,” said the devs. “When you look at Jesse and what she’s capable of doing, she can control the environment through her powers, she can also control the minds of the enemies, turn them against each other, and so on. And then on a thematic level, the plot itself is all about control, losing control, and then trying to take control back. So that’s deeply part of the overall feel of the game. And yes, control points are just a very kind of clear and concrete visualization of certain spots in the building that the Hiss, the supernatural force, has corrupted. And then what Jesse can do is cleanse them pushing that away. And then the building kind of restarts itself when you do that.”

Interesting to think how something seemingly so simple can have so much thought put behind it. Control will launch for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC on August 27th. We’re also going to have a full interview with the game’s developer soon here on GamingBolt, so stay tuned.
