Cyberpunk 2077’s Post-Launch Support Will Be Similar To The Witcher 3’s

"We’ve learnt a lot from Witcher 3 and how that DLC worked," says level designer Max Pears.

The Witcher 3 had one of the best post-launch models we’ve seen for a game in recent memory. Beyond ordinary updates that improved and optimized the experience post-launch while taking player feedback into consideration, the game also received two paid expansions, both of which were large, meaty chunks of excellent quality. With Cyberpunk 2077, CD Projekt RED will be doing something similar.

Speaking in an interview with VGC, CD Projekt RED level designer Max Pears said that as far as free DLC during the post-launch period is concerned, players can expect improvements to the game that launches similar to what CDPR did with The Witcher 3. “With Witcher 3 the game got better with quality of life updates for the community as well, like how we improved the UI and things like that,” he said. “So we’ll be listening to feedback but we do have focus on what the DLC will be.”

But it’s not just with the free updates to the game that CDPR will be taking cues from their own past efforts. Cyberpunk 2077’s entire post-launch model, as per Pears, has learned a lot from The Witcher 3.

“We’ve learnt a lot from Witcher 3 and how that DLC worked,” he said. “We’ve learnt from that and that is the strategy for how we’ll apply DLC to Cyberpunk as well. We’ll look to take what we’ve learnt from Witcher 3 and apply that.”

One key difference between post-launch content for both games is, of course, going to be the fact that Cyberpunk 2077 will be receiving a multiplayer mode, which The Witcher 3 never did. CDPR have also given assurances that the multiplayer experience has been designed to fit within the lore and context of the game and its world. Read more on that through here.

Cyberpunk 2077 is out on April 16, 2020 for the PS4, Xbox One, PC, and Stadia.
