Much like its predecessor, Ubisoft’s Ghost Recon Breakpoint will have microtransactions. However, the loot box-like crates are going away in favour of more direct purchases. As per the official site, there are two currencies – Skell Credits and Ghost Coins. The former is earned by playing the game while the latter can be purchased with real money.

The developer breaks down exactly what players can earn in game:

  • Skell Credits
  • Weapon Blueprints
  • Attachments
  • Weapons and Gear
  • Customization Options
  • Vehicles
  • Resources

Skell Credits can be used to craft certain weapons and unlock specific attachments, purchase specific weapons and gear, unlock specific vehicles and acquire specific customization items. Ghost Coins can be used for – you guessed it – acquiring more Skell Credits. They can also purchase the following:

  • Unlocking weapon blueprints automatically (you can find them in-game for free)
  • Unlocking weapon attachments automatically (you can find them in-game for free)
  • Exclusive customization options
  • Exclusive vehicles
  • Various time savers
  • Rewards Booster

It’s worth noting that Ghost Coins will unlock a “few” exclusive cosmetics. Items Packs will have items that can be acquired in-game separately while the time savers include crafting materials to make medicinal items and explosives.

Of course, you can also pick up boosters for doubling your Battle Points, which is associated with the Battle Rewards system (though the boosters will be available two weeks after launch). Battle Rewards make up a new Battle Pass-like system. You earn points by partaking in faction missions and completing PvP matches.

Battle Points are capped per day and earning enough points progresses through tiers. Each tier has “exclusive rewards”. But wait – there is indeed more. Each Story Episode – which lasts for four months – will have two different Battle Rewards phases, referred to as Acts. Each Act offers 50 items to unlock so you’ll have roughly two months to get everything in that phase.

Then there are milestone items which are earned by reaching a certain tier – these provide a randomly selected item from the Act’s pool. Items that have already been unlocked are not factored in. Got it? Good.

Ghost Recon Breakpoint is out on October 4th for Xbox One, PS4 and PC. The open beta will be taking place on September 26th to 29th – head here to learn more improvements made after the closed beta.
