Nintendo’s Pokemon Sword and Shield is making a number of different changes to how it does things. While that can be seen most in its gameplay features, it’s also slightly changing how players can access online functions. According to its official website, there will be an in-game purchase option for those who don’t have Nintendo Switch Online.

Nintendo Switch Online is, of course, required for multiplayer and trading online. It does have a number of other benefits such as free NES and SNES games, and access to games like Tetris 99. Still, for those who want a no-frills online experience for just Pokemon Sword and Shield, the in-game purchase option is available.

The feature isn’t available in all countries so keep that in mind before canceling that Nintendo Switch Online subscription. Pokemon Sword and Shield is out on November 15th for the Switch. Recently, Game Freak showcased Gigantamax forms for classic Pokemon like Charizard, Pikachu and Eevee. Check those out here.
