Death Stranding – New Video Puts the Spotlight on Protagonist Sam Bridges

In the lead up to the imminent launch of Death Stranding, Sony has been releasing new behind-the-scenes videos for the game, in which director Hideo Kojima talks about various aspects of the game’s development. After having spoken about how “connections” aren’t only a major theme in the game, but also hugely responsible for the game’s very existence, in another new video, Kojima talks about the game’s protagonist- Sam Porter Bridges.

Played by Norman Reedus, who had previously worked with Hideo Kojima on P.T. (and would have been involved in the cancelled Silent Hills as well), Kojima envisions Sam as a very different protagonist from other protagonists in current video games. Kojima describes him as a regular blue-collar guy who’s incapable of the kinds of actions most video game characters are capable of, and here, he goes into detail about why that makes Sam interesting. Death Stranding is out on November 8 for the PS4, but a pre-launch countdown stream with Hideo Kojima and members of the cast (including Norman Reedus) will be going live tomorrow.
