Diablo 4 has apparently gone through quite a few changes in its development cycle, but now the (possibly) final version of the game has been revealed. It won’t be out for quite some time still, so don’t expect it to come out for a few more years at the very least, but Blizzard is letting people know what to expect in the game’s scope and tone.

In a panel at BlizzCon 2019, Creative Director Sebastian Stępień said that the game will have a grounded, more dark story than its predecessor, Diablo 3, did and would lend itself more to the tone of the first two games. In talking about that, he also said the game would feature over 100 villages, giving us an idea of how big the thing will potentially be (thanks to Wccftech for transcribing the talk).

“We want to bring back this very very specific vibe that makes Diablo unique and it’s not only about darkness, so this is very, very important for us because it impacts almost every layer of the game, every aspect. The first thing is the story. We want to make a much more grounded story [in Diablo IV] than in Diablo III. And we think that the best way to deliver this story is to give you a possibility to discover stories of simple folks.”

Diablo 4 was announced to come out for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC. No time frame was given, just that it would be a long time even for “Blizzard time,” so strap in fans, it’s going to be a long wait.
