The data for video game software sales in the US for the month of October 2019 is in, courtesy of the NPD Group (via GamesBeat), and it’s been a pretty solid month, all in all. Though spending is down from last year’s October thanks to a less busy release schedule, there have still been some impressive performances from plenty of new releases.

On top of the charts is, unsurprisingly, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare. The game grossed over $600 million worldwide during its launch weekend, and it’s performed just as well in the US as well. It’s immediately become the best-selling game of the year, while this is also the twelfth consecutive year that the Call of Duty series has debuted as the best-selling game during its release month.

In second place is, surprisingly, The Outer Worlds, Obsidian Entertainment and Private Division’s critically acclaimed RPG. Private Division’s parent company Take-Two Interactive recently stated that the game was selling better than they had expected, and to see it occupying second place – when so many of Obsidian’s past games have failed to translate positive critical reception to strong sales – certainly proves that.

Meanwhile, in third place is fellow debutant Luigi’s Mansion 3in spite of having released very late in the month (October 31) and not having digital sales counted for these charts. It’s also the best launch month for a Luigi’s Mansion title, beating the record held by the GameCube original.

You can view the full software charts below. These are based on dollar sales (revenue), not number of units sold.
